Sisters: Aline,Marina,Mary First to teach at St. Benedict
In May 1948, Father Ritter broke ground to establish the first parochial school in Bullitt County,
St. Benedict School. The school was not completed in time for the following school year. The
basement of the church was divided into two classrooms to provide classroom for grades 1
through 4 and grades 5 through 8. Sixty students were enrolled the first year of St. Benedict
School. The students were taught by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth who resided at St.
Clare's Convent.
The school was completed and dedicated on November 6, 1949.

With pledges and help from his members, Father Ritter added the 9th and tenth grades to
establish St. Benedict High School in 1950. In 1951 Father Roger A. Boehmicke expanded the
high school to include the eleventh and twelfth grades. St. Benedict  High School served the
community from 1950 through 1965. The Elementary and Middle School served the community
for 53 years until 2001, when the St. Benedict School was closed.
